Pool pumps
Circulating the pool’s water keeps chemicals mixed
and also removes debris. It is not usually necessary to recirculate
the water daily to remove debris. Longer pump circulation does not necessarily
reduce algae growth. Using proper chemicals and wall scrubbings are
the best methods.
One should reduce the operation of pool pumps filtration
time to about six hours a day. If the pool water doesn’t seem
clean, increase the time in half-hour periods until the water is clear.
On average, reducing pool pump operation saved owners approximately
60% on their electrical bill.
A timer can be installed to control the pool pump’s
cycling. If debris is problematic, using a timer can activate the pump
for several short periods each day. Keep the intake cleared of debris.
Backwash the pool filter regularly but not more often than necessary.
Clogged drains make the pump work harder and wastes water. By not backwashing
one wastes energy by requiring the pump to expend more energy to work.
